When has the joke gone too far.

I'm probably one of the worst type of people when it comes to knowing when it's time to give up on the joke. I will often cling to a joke well beyond when it's funny. In fact a lot of my jokes are funny because they haven't actually BEEN funny in a very long time. Sometimes though, I will realize that a joke is getting old and I'm getting that sense about a certain joke that seems to be played more and more.

This joke started with a single trailer, which I will post below.



For those of you who don't know, Goat Simulator was originally just an engine test/joke that was posted online, because the idea of an entire game being about a goat seemed ludicrous at the time. However, the video soon became viral and soon people were voicing very loudly that not only do they want to play this game but that they would pay money to do so. You can't beat publicity like that so Goat Simulator very quickly became an actual project. The game was released and was a commercial success, although critically it was mixed. Turns out that it a lot of people had more fun watching the shenanigans than actually playing them. There was also complaints about  lack of content but this supposedly will be remedied by free DLC released later.

Fast forward about 3 or so months. A kick starter is posted on IndieGoGo called rock simulator. In the game, you play as a rock. Granted this isn't the first time players were allowed to play as a rock, but usually this rock would roll around a stage or be used as a weapon. NOT IN ROCK SIMULATOR! Rock Simulator is serious business with serious real life rock physics. The kick starter only asked for $500, enough to pay the entry fee to be put on Steam Greenlight. The game, upon release will be free to play so you wouldn't actually have to pay money for it but the kick starter, at the time of writing this article, was funded 194% of it's original goal.

At this time, there is no video for rock simulator.

Give or take a few days, yet another Simulator hits headlines, this time, it's grass simulator. In this case, I think I'll just copy the entry for it on Steam Greenlight.

We have 3 ironic Simulators in existence right now. The first time, it was funny as hell. The second time was still funny, if a bit forced. The third time is when I smack my palm on my head and groan. We don't need these games, Steam Greenlight is already filled with bad games hiding as real games. We don't need it to be flooded with "me too" joke games. Mark my words though, its only a matter of time before we get Paint Drying Simulator.
