I'm really bad at streaming: my review of Coming Out Simulator 2014

So I was planning on doing my first stream ever today. That didn't go so well. I made a few mistakes setting up the video so the recording only takes up a portion of the screen. But hey, I learned something so it wasn't a COMPLETE failure. Anyway, the game I was playing was one that I became aware of through a gaming site. Coming Out Simulator 2014. I thought, "Hey, I'm gay. Why not give it a try!"

This is a very short game so I'm going to keep the review brief. My biggest recommendation though would be to play it for yourself.

First Impressions

The first thing I noticed about the game was the art style.

Very minimalist but gets the job done. The blank faces are nice because they let you insert yourself into the narrative. The game keeps this layout throughout and you usually only have 2-3 options in order to proceed with the narrative. Speaking of...

The Narrative

I would like to start off by sharing my own coming out story. My sister guessed I was gay and my mom found out later that day. HOLLYWOOD GIVE ME A CALL!

I hope Anne will play me in the Hollywood version!

Yeah, my coming out was very quick, not anything like the things we experience here. I won't spoil it for you but there are definitely moments where you feel very uncomfortable. There is an attempt to play it off as comedy towards the end that I felt was a  bit jarring though, so prepare for that.

Replay?

It's a very short game and the branching dialogue trees might be fun to play around a bit with. I personally would rather have my friends play it and then talk about what decisions they made in the game. I made the mom throw up. Did you?

You can play the game here, and send a tweet to the creator here
